Orienteering Outing

Camp Three Falls

October 4-6, 2002

The first outing of the year for Troop 125 will be at Camp Three Falls. The camp is located in Frazier Park, about 1½ hours north of Glendale.

The focus of this weekend will be on earning the Orienteering Merit Badge. Orienteering is the competitive sport of navigation over open terrain. You will use a map and compass, among other things, to determine the best way to complete the course, faster than the competition.

Our hosts are the Verdugo Hills Council High Adventure Team, and they have planned an action packed weekend for us. We will be taught orienteering skills, then organized into teams that will compete to see who will be the champion! Along the way, you will complete the merit badge requirements.

Food is a treat here! Patrols will not have to prepare food, as the central kitchen will cook it for us! No patrol boxes will be required for this weekend!

I can’t tell you how many folks have told me how much fun this weekend is. Hurry to sign up, as the troop has only been allotted 24 spaces. The cost for each reservation is $40. I will assign them on first come first served basis, but all reservations must be in by September 25th at the latest.

We will meet at Glenoaks Park at 5:00 on Friday, October 4 for departure. Bring $5 for dinner, or pack a sack dinner. We will stop at In-N-Out on the way to camp. We will return Sunday about 5:00 PM.

Please call if you have questions.
