49ers Gold Rush Camporee

Veterans Park, Sylmar CA

April 25-27, 2003

Troop 125's April campout is the Verdugo Hills Council's annual Camporee.  This year it will be held at Veterans Park in Sylmar. (For parents over 40, it is so named because it was the site of the old Veterans Hospital that was destroyed in the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake!)

This year, our theme is “49ers Gold Rush”, which means the events are based upon the people who rushed to California in 1849 seeking GOLD.  Each patrol, when they check-in, will be given wide brimmed hats to protect them for, as you know, a miner spends a lot of time in the sun.

There will be 7 events emphasizing various Scout skills including:

  • Patrol camping and self-sufficiency (all boys must have the Scout Outdoor Essentials)
  • Patrol skills in survival and emergency preparedness.
  • Teamwork, cooperation, and fun.

Our patrols will be competing with all of the other patrols in the Council, using the Scout skills that we have been learning at the meetings and the Eagle Rock Trek.  Our success depends on every Scout participating and doing his best.

We will meet at Glenoaks Park at 4:00 PM on Friday, April 27th and return on Sunday at approximately noon. We will not be stopping for dinner on Friday, so come to the park fed or with a sack dinner. Unless otherwise noted, the full BSA Scout uniform will be worn during the entire Camporee.

Competitive points are earned by the patrols for early registration and fees increase if we are late.  Please make every effort to return the permission slip and $28 (for registration and food) ASAP but no later than the Troop meeting on April 16. (Each patrol member will be given the hat as part of the registration fee.)
