The October Committee
Meeting was held at the home of Gay and Fritz Varga. Thank you to the Vargas
for hosting the meeting. Those attending were Brant Reed, Scoutmaster;
Debbie Izumi, Treasurer; Kim Kunitake, Social Activities Chair; Judy Rogers,
Outings Chair; Peter Thompson, Committee Chairman; and Gay Varga, Secretary.
Mr. Thompson called the meeting to
order at 7:24 p.m.
Senior Patrol Leader’s Report: I was
very impressed at the behavior of the Scouts at summer camp. The majority of
them showed a level maturity much higher than expectations. The first few
meetings have been a little rough going, but the boys have been very
cooperative. The participation in the patrol leader council meetings has
been very good, but I would like to see more. I appreciate them taking time
out of their week to plan for the month’s meetings. I say on behalf of the
entire PLC that we appreciate the Thompsons for allowing us to use their
house for meetings and the brownies. I think as the meetings go on, we can
expect great things, and I look forward to this coming Scout year.
Committee Chair’s Report: Peter
Thompson thanked Brant Reed and July Rogers for arranging the Sea Base trip.
It was unique and special, and a good success.
Board of Review Chair’s Report:
There is one Scout ready this week for his board of review. A reminder: Make
sure all the patches are correct.
Advancement Report: Since our
meeting last month we have one rank advancement to Scout.
Scoutmaster’s Report: A fun time was
had by all at the Sea Base trip and pictures are available on the
troop website. There has been a calendar change to November 8 and 9 for
the Chilao campout due to Halloween and school testing. Summer camp at
Emerald Bay has been confirmed for August 8-14 and more information will
follow. The first payment will be due in January 2004. Reservations are made
for the Snow Valley ski trip on January 9. All families are invited and
encouraged to attend the Court of Honor and Family Potluck on October 22.
Treasurer’s Report: Debbi Izumi
reported that the troop’s current checking account balance is $4,674.91.
Social Activities Committee Report:
Kim Kunitake advised that she passed out a flyer at the troop meeting on
October 8 about the Fall Court of Honor and Family Potluck. She will have
the patrol leaders call their patrols with the potluck assignments…Bison and
Bobwhites: main dish for 6 & a salad; and Frogs and Knights: main dish for 7
& a dessert.
Membership Chairman’s Report: Brant
Reed reported for John Saunders that we have one new Scout. We are
approaching re-charter time with the Troop 125’s packet due to Council by
December 2 along with payment of $21 per Scout.
Training Coordinator’s Report: For
information on adult leader training sessions that will be offered in the
next few months, check the troop website at
troop125.com.
Equipment Coordinator’s Report:
Brant Reed reported for Jim McKenna that the tents were surveyed and we now
have a list of required repairs.
Venture Scout Report: Brant Reed
reported for Steve Webber that there is a bike trip planned for the the
Venture Scouts at the Chilao campout.
Old Business: Brant Reed reported
that the 65 year patches are not here yet and hoped that they would arrive
by the Court of Honor. Kim Kunitake will bring back the sign-up sheets from
the Parents night for the Court of Honor.
New Business: This year due to a
lack of a “Popcorn Kernel” (chairman for popcorn sales), Troop 125 hasn’t
participated so far in a popcorn sales fundraiser. As some were waiting for
their Scout popcorn, it was decided that orders will be taken at the Court
of Honor for interested parents. Please see Peter Thompson. Those not
needing any popcorn will be asked to consider making a voluntary donation to
the troop in lieu of sales. A lengthy discussion followed on the need to
make up for lost fundraising revenue, and the decision to increase Scout
dues for next year will be deferred to the spring when a budget plan can be
put together.
The next committee meeting will be
held on Monday, November 10, beginning at 7 p.m. at the home of Judy and
John Rogers, 2462 Sleepy Hollow Drive, in Glendale. All parents are welcome
and encouraged to attend.
Mr. Thompson adjourned the meeting
at 9:20 pm.
